Target Information
Biliverdin reductase (BLVR)는 세포질 내에서 널리 발현되는 산화환원효소로, biliverdin을 bilirubin으로 환원시키는 반응을 촉매합니다. 이 과정의 첫 단계는 heme oxygenase에 의해 촉매되며, heme을 철, 일산화탄소, 그리고 biliverdin으로 전환합니다.
BLVR은 NADH(pH 6.7) 또는 NADPH(pH 8.7)를 전자공여체로 사용하는 이중 pH/이중 보조인자 의존 효소로 알려져 있습니다.
두 가지 isoform이 존재하며, biliverdin-IX alpha-reductase (BLVRA)는 성인 간에서 주로, biliverdin-IX beta-reductase (BLVRB)는 태아 간에서 주로 발견됩니다.
BLVR의 생성물인 bilirubin은 강력한 생리적 항산화제이지만, 동시에 신경독성을 나타내며 kernicterus의 원인이 되기도 합니다. 또한 protein kinase C 및 NADPH oxidase 등의 효소 활성을 억제합니다.
