For reconstitution, add 100 µL distilled water to achieve a final antibody concentration of approximately 1 mg/mL.
For conjugation experiments using this carrier-free antibody, perform an additional desalting step (recommended: Zeba Spin Desalting Columns, 7K MWCO, 0.5 mL, Product #89882).
Target Information
Tau is a neuronal microtubule-associated protein found predominantly on axons. It promotes tubulin polymerization and stabilizes microtubules.
- The C-terminus binds axonal microtubules, and the N-terminus binds neural plasma membrane components, functioning as a linker protein.
- Axonal polarity is determined by TAU/MAPT localization within the neuronal cell body.
- Short isoforms contribute to cytoskeletal plasticity, while longer isoforms stabilize the cytoskeleton.
- Hyper-phosphorylated Tau forms paired helical filaments (PHF), a major component of neurofibrillary lesions in Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
- Hyper-phosphorylation disrupts microtubule binding, leading to destabilization and neuronal degeneration.
- Kinases including GSK-3β, PKA, cdk5, and casein kinase II phosphorylate Tau.
- Hyper-phosphorylated Tau is also found in other neurodegenerative diseases such as Pick’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, corticobasal degeneration, and progressive supranuclear palsy.
