Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody AE3 recognizes many members of the basic (Type II) cytokeratin family. Cytokeratins are intermediate filament proteins forming part of the cytoskeleton. They are expressed in epithelial cells and developmentally regulated. Many tumors also express these cytokeratins, and their expression can help identify the origin of a neoplasm.

The AE3 antibody recognizes the 65–67 triplet, 64, 59, 58, 56, 54, and 52 kD proteins (cytokeratin 1–8) in mouse, human, rat, primate (cynomolgus and rhesus), dog, cat, rabbit, and chicken.

Applications Reported:

  • Western blotting
  • Immunohistochemical staining (frozen and paraffin-embedded tissues)
  • Immunocytochemistry

Applications Tested:
Tested by western blot on SDS-reduced lysates from MCF7 cells at ≤ 2 µg/mL. Antibody titration is recommended for optimal performance.

Purity: Greater than 90%, determined by SDS-PAGE
Aggregation: Less than 10%, determined by HPLC
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered

Target Information

Cytokeratin pan is a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity and represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. Cytokeratins range from 40–68 kDa with an isoelectric pH between 4.9–7.8. Expression patterns vary by epithelial type, maturation stage, and disease state.

Cytokeratin subtype expression is widely used in distinguishing epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies assist in differential tumor diagnosis using immunohistochemistry and are useful tools in cytopathology and flow cytometry. Keratin markers are valuable in cancer research and tumor identification.
