Smooth Muscle Actin은 세포 운동성, 구조 및 무결성에 관여하는 고도로 보존된 단백질인 액틴 패밀리에 속합니다. 알파, 베타, 감마 액틴 동종체가 존재하며, 알파 액틴은 수축성 장치의 주요 구성 요소입니다. Smooth muscle actin은 평활근, 혈관벽, 장벽, 자궁근층, 유방 및 침샘의 근상피세포에서 발견됩니다.
이 단백질은 근섬유 수축, 세포 이동 및 세포질 분열에 중요한 역할을 하며, 변이 시 가족성 흉부 대동맥류(type 6)를 유발할 수 있습니다. 또한 상처 치유나 섬유수축성 질환과 같은 병리적 상황에서 섬유아세포의 스트레스 섬유에서도 발현됩니다.
