Target Information
Casein kinase I (CKI) and casein kinase II (CKII) are families of serine/threonine protein kinases found in all eukaryotes.
CKI family members (α, γ, ε, δ) regulate cytoplasmic and nuclear processes such as DNA replication and repair.
CKII typically forms a tetrameric complex (α2β2 or αα'β2), where the α catalytic subunit is activated by the β regulatory subunit that undergoes autophosphorylation.
CKII activity is high in proliferating and differentiating cells and phosphorylates over 100 substrates, including nuclear oncoproteins, transcription factors, and DNA metabolism enzymes.
