Target Information
Caspases are cysteine proteases expressed as inactive precursors that mediate apoptosis by proteolysis of specific substrates. They cleave after aspartic acid residues and are divided into initiator caspases (activated by receptor clustering) and effector caspases (activated by mitochondrial permeability transition). Initiator caspases such as Caspase-8 and Caspase-9 activate effector caspases like Caspase-3 and Caspase-7, leading to cellular apoptosis.
