Target Information

MAPK3 (ERK1) is a serine/threonine kinase that activates p90, RSK, MSK, ELK1, and Stat3, functioning within the MAPK pathway. ERK1 is widely expressed and regulates meiosis, mitosis, and post-mitotic functions in differentiated cells. It responds to diverse stimuli such as growth factors, cytokines, viral infection, and G protein-coupled receptor ligands, activating ERK1/ERK2 pathways. ERK1 participates in signaling cascades controlling proliferation, differentiation, and cell cycle progression. Activated ERK1 translocates to the nucleus to phosphorylate nuclear targets. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different ERK1 isoforms have been described.
