Target Information
Somatostatin is a hormone with active 14 aa and 28 aa forms produced by alternate cleavage of a single preproprotein. It is expressed throughout the body and inhibits the release of numerous secondary hormones by binding to high-affinity G-protein-coupled somatostatin receptors. This hormone regulates endocrine functions including pituitary growth hormone, thyroid stimulating hormone, and gastrointestinal hormones. Somatostatin also affects neurotransmission and cell proliferation in both normal and tumorigenic cells.
