Product Specific Information

The HIT2 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD38 molecule, an approximately 45 kDa type II transmembrane protein. CD38 is expressed by thymocytes, peripheral B cells including plasma cells, activated T cells, and monocytes. CD38 is a counter-receptor for CD31 and has both cyclase and hydrolase enzymatic activity.

• Applications Tested: Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometry using normal human peripheral blood cells
• Recommended Use: 5 µL (1 µg) per test in a final 100 µL staining volume

Target Information

CD38 (NAD⁺ glycohydrolase) is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein that induces activation, proliferation, and differentiation of mature lymphocytes and mediates apoptosis of myeloid and lymphoid progenitor cells. It functions as a multi-catalytic ectoenzyme serving as ADP-ribosyl cyclase, cyclic ADP-ribose hydrolase, and possibly NAD⁺ glycohydrolase or as a cell surface receptor.

Antibodies to CD38 are useful for:

• Subtyping of lymphomas and leukemias
• Detection of plasma cells (e.g., myeloma identification)
• Marker for activated B and T cells

CD38 participates in cell adhesion, signal transduction, and calcium signaling. It is expressed at high levels in pancreas, liver, kidney, malignant lymphoma, and neuroblastoma. Diseases associated with CD38 dysfunction include chronic lymphocytic leukemia and Richter’s Syndrome.
