Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody eBioNL07 recognizes human CD36, a member of the class B scavenger receptor family. CD36 was originally identified as a platelet membrane glycoprotein (glycoprotein IV) and receptor for thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) and extracellular matrix proteins.
Expression includes microvascular endothelium, adipocytes, skeletal muscle, dendritic cells, retinal and intestinal epithelia, smooth muscle cells, and hematopoietic cells such as platelets, monocytes/macrophages, and megakaryocytes.
CD36 also functions as a fatty acid translocase (FAT) necessary for long-chain fatty acid transport, potentially involved in atherosclerosis.

Target Information

CD36 (Scavenger Receptor Class B Member 3) is expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It participates in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis by recognizing oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells.
It also mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum–infected erythrocytes and serves as a receptor for thrombospondin.
Mutations in this gene cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency. Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist.
Associated diseases include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
