Target Information

MAPK14 (p38 alpha) is a member of the stress-activated protein kinase class of MAPKs.
The p38 MAPK cascade regulates cellular responses to stress, inflammation, and other signals.
p38 MAPK is inactive in its nonphosphorylated form and is activated by dual phosphorylation of Thr-Gly-Tyr motifs.
There are four isoforms of p38 MAPK, differing in tissue expression and affinity for upstream activators and downstream effectors.
Upon exposure to TNF, IL-1, heat shock, or other stimuli, MAPK kinase-3/6 phosphorylate Thr180 and Tyr182 of p38 MAPK.
Activated phospho-p38 MAPK phosphorylates transcription factors such as ATF-2, CHOP-1, and MEF-2.
