Target Information

The type II cAMP-protein kinase (PKA) is a multifunctional kinase involved in diverse cellular processes. Specificity of PKA signaling is mediated by compartmentalization of the kinase to specific cellular sites, achieved through interaction with RII-anchoring proteins known as A-kinase anchoring proteins (AKAPs).
AKAP95 (also known as AKAP8) is a nuclear matrix protein predominantly expressed in liver, heart, pancreas, kidney, and skeletal muscle. During mitosis, AKAP95 is recruited to chromosomes and plays an essential role in mitotic progression. It participates in PKA signaling via interaction with the RII regulatory subunit and forms complexes with HA95 and HDAC3, contributing to histone H3 deacetylation during mitosis.
