Target Information

Ataxia-telangiectasia Mutated (ATM) is a member of the PI3/PI4 kinase family. The ATM gene encodes a protein that phosphorylates downstream targets such as P53, Mdm2, BRCA1, and SMC1, which regulate cell-cycle progression and DNA repair.
ATM is activated by ionizing radiation and other mutagens, leading to autophosphorylation and initiation of kinase cascades involved in DNA damage response, apoptosis, and cell-cycle control.
Defects in ATM cause ataxia-telangiectasia, characterized by neurological degeneration, immunodeficiency, and predisposition to lymphoid cancers.
