Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature (RT).
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at RT for 20 min.

Target Information

Lens proteins consist almost entirely of crystallins (about 95%). Crystallins are also found in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue. In the lens, their structural role is to maintain the proper refractive index.
The mammalian lens contains three major classes of crystallins: alpha, beta, and gamma. Alpha-crystallin is the largest, composed of two primary gene products—alpha-A and alpha-B.
Alpha-B crystallin functions as a molecular chaperone, preventing aggregate formation that could lead to cataract development. It is also linked to Alexander’s disease, where it accumulates in brain cells.
