Product Specific Information

Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

Lens proteins consist almost entirely of crystallins (about 95%), which are also found in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue.
In the lens, their structural function is to maintain the proper refractive index.
The mammalian lens contains three major classes of crystallins: alpha, beta, and gamma.
Alpha-crystallin, the largest, is composed of two primary gene products: alpha-A and alpha-B.
Alpha-crystallin comprises about 40% of total lens protein composition and functions as a molecular chaperone, preventing aggregation that may lead to cataract formation.
Phosphorylation of alpha-crystallin is associated with cellular stress and may play roles in structural control and protein maintenance.
Alpha-B crystallin has been linked to Alexander’s disease, where it accumulates in brain cells.
