Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
Cytokeratin 18 (Keratin 18, KRT18, type I cytoskeletal 18) is a low molecular weight keratin belonging to the acidic subfamily. It forms complexes with cytokeratin 8 and is expressed in epithelial tissues of the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, as well as endocrine, exocrine, and mesothelial cells. It is primarily found in non-squamous epithelia and is expressed in most adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas, but not in squamous cell carcinomas. Hepatocellular carcinomas express only cytokeratins 8 and 18. Mutations in KRT18 have been associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis. Cytokeratin subtype expression assists in distinguishing epithelial malignancies and is useful in immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, and flow cytometry assays.
