Target Information
MYH (mutY homolog, E. coli) is a DNA glycosylase mismatch repair enzyme that, in conjunction with mutM (OGG1), cleaves adenine residues paired with oxidized or non-modified guanines to correct A/G and A/C mismatches.
DNA glycosylases initiate base excision repair by binding and cleaving N-glycosyl bonds. MYH is crucial for preventing mutations from oxidative DNA damage.
Multiple N-terminal splice variants of MYH exist in mammalian cells. Elevated MYH levels in A549 cells exposed to oxygen and infrared radiation improve cell survival.
Biallelic MYH germ-line mutations predispose humans to colorectal adenomas and carcinomas. MYH is abundant in neurons, maintaining mitochondrial genome integrity against reactive oxygen species (ROS) throughout the mammalian lifespan.
