Target Information
In mammals, G protein α, β, and γ polypeptides are encoded by at least 16, 4, and 7 genes, respectively. While most research has focused on the α subunits due to their GTP binding and hydrolysis activity, βγ subunits also play critical regulatory roles. Distinct G protein complexes expressed in different tissues contain structurally unique γ, α, and β subunits, and preferential associations among these subunits contribute to functional diversity in G protein signaling.
