Target Information
The PCK2 gene encodes a mitochondrial enzyme of the phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (GTP) family. It catalyzes the conversion of oxaloacetate to phosphoenolpyruvate in the presence of GTP.
A cytosolic form encoded by a different gene functions as a key enzyme in gluconeogenesis in the liver. The mitochondrial form is constitutively expressed and not hormonally regulated.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
