Target Information
The high-mobility group (HMG) proteins 14 and 17 are abundant chromosomal proteins that bind to nucleosomes and enhance transcription. HMG-14 and HMG-17 also function as architectural elements, altering the chromatin fiber structure and facilitating transcription from chromatin templates. These proteins modify the nucleosomal organization of the chromatin fiber, mediating the unfolding of higher-order chromatin structures and enabling access to DNA sequences. HMG-14/17 proteins are also found in mouse oocytes and embryonic chromatin, linking chromatin structure with embryonic development.
