Target Information

Multifunctional serine/threonine kinase involved in several processes including egress of virus particles from the nucleus, modulation of the actin cytoskeleton, and inhibition of apoptosis. Phosphorylates proteins 24 and 27, regulators of capsid budding from nucleus to endoplasmic reticulum, facilitating virion egress. Modulates and redistributes host nuclear envelope components such as LMNA, emerin (EMD), and MATR3. Phosphorylates envelope glycoprotein B (gB) to direct it to the cell surface. Promotes viral intracellular spread by restructuring host cell cytoskeleton and blocks host apoptosis to extend cell survival for efficient viral replication. Enhances viral gene expression by phosphorylating HDAC2 to reduce viral genome silencing and downregulates MHC-I surface expression. Additionally phosphorylates IE62 and targets it to the cytoplasm, enabling packaging of abundant IE62 into virions.
