Target Information
MIA3/TANGO plays a role in the transport of cargos that are too large to fit into COPII-coated vesicles and require specific mechanisms for export from the endoplasmic reticulum. It is essential for collagen VII (COL7A1) secretion by loading COL7A1 into transport carriers. MIA3 participates in cargo loading at ER exit sites by binding to COPII coat subunits Sec23/24 and guiding SH3-bound COL7A1.
While specific to COL7A1 cargo loading, it may also assist in secretion of other proteins or lipoproteins in certain cells. Additionally, it is required for proper assembly of COPII coat components and localization of SEC16A and ER-resident complexes (MIA2 and PREB/SEC12) to ER exit sites.
