Target Information
MIA3/TANGO plays a role in the transport of large cargos that cannot fit into COPII-coated vesicles. It is essential for collagen VII (COL7A1) secretion by loading COL7A1 into transport carriers. MIA3 interacts with COPII coat subunits Sec23/24 to guide SH3-bound COL7A1 into carriers at endoplasmic reticulum exit sites (ERES). It is specific to COL7A1 cargo loading but may also assist in secretion of other proteins, including lipoproteins. MIA3 is required for proper assembly of COPII components and localization of SEC16A and ER-resident complexes (MIA2, PREB/SEC12) at ERES.
