Target Information
MIA3 plays a role in the transport of cargos too large for COPII-coated vesicles, facilitating their incorporation into membrane-bound carriers for export from the endoplasmic reticulum. It is essential for collagen VII (COL7A1) secretion and may assist in cargo loading at ER exit sites by interacting with COPII coat subunits Sec23/24. MIA3 is specific to COL7A1 cargo but may also contribute to secretion of other proteins, including lipoproteins. It is required for proper assembly of COPII coat components and localization of SEC16A and ER-resident complexes (MIA2 and PREB/SEC12) to ER exit sites. [UniProt]
