Target Information
Alpha 2-Macroglobulin (A2M) is an approximately 720-kDa homotetrameric glycoprotein composed of four identical ~180 kDa subunits.
It shares structural and functional similarities with other alpha-macroglobulins such as complement components C3, C4, and pregnancy zone protein (PZP).
A2M binds a wide range of ligands and acts as a humoral defense barrier against foreign peptides in plasma.
It interacts with and captures various proteinases, functioning as a panprotease inhibitor.
In Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients, A2M has been localized to diffuse amyloid plaques, suggesting a role in AD pathophysiology.
