Antibody detects endogenous levels of Connexin 43 (GJA1) only when phosphorylated at Ser262.
Target Information
Connexin 43 (Cx43) is a gap junction protein that forms hexameric hemichannels, enabling intercellular communication through gap junctions. These channels play critical roles in development, cell growth regulation, and cardiac function. Phosphorylation of Cx43 modulates assembly and function of gap junctions. Ser368 phosphorylation by PKC decreases cell-to-cell communication, while Src-mediated phosphorylation alters gap junction activity. Connexin 43 is the major gap junction protein in the heart and is regulated by multiple kinases affecting myocardial coupling. A pseudogene, GJA1P, is mapped to chromosome 5. Mutations in related genes can cause inherited neuropathies and heart malformations.
