Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질군에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상교세포(astrocyte) 및 특정 교세포, 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포에서도 높은 수준으로 발현되며, GFAP 항체는 교세포 표지자로 널리 사용됩니다. 다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP가 과발현되며, 수정체 상피세포, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP는 신경 발달 과정에서 교세포와 다른 신경세포를 구분하는 표지자로 활용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 돌연변이는 Alexander disease라는 희귀한 교세포 질환을 유발합니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 아이소폼이 존재합니다.
