Target Information
The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed on T helper cells but may also be found on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is present in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues such as brain and gut. CD4 participates in T-cell activation through interaction with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck, and may mediate neuronal damage in immune-related CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
