This gene belongs to the RNA polymerase II subunit 11 gene family, located on chromosome 7q22.1, with a related pseudogene on 7p13.
It encodes a subunit of RNA polymerase II, responsible for synthesizing messenger RNA in eukaryotes.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts may produce isoforms with distinct C-termini compared to DNA directed RNA polymerase II polypeptide J.
Most variants include additional non-coding exons at the 3’ end, making them candidates for nonsense-mediated decay (NMD).
It remains unclear whether this locus expresses a functional protein in vivo.
