Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family. MMP proteins are involved in the breakdown of the extracellular matrix during normal physiological processes such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes including asthma and metastasis. MMP21 may play an important role in embryogenesis, particularly in neuronal cells, and in lymphocyte development and survival.
