Target Information
This gene encodes the large subunit of DNA damage-binding protein, a heterodimer composed of large and small subunits. It functions in nucleotide-excision repair. Defective activity causes the repair defect in xeroderma pigmentosum complementation group E (XPE). Mutation analysis is required to confirm whether the defect lies in this gene or the small subunit gene. Additionally, Best vitelliform macular dystrophy maps to the same region (11q), though no sequence alterations in this gene are found in Best disease patients.
