Target Information

TBK1 (TANK-binding kinase 1) serine/threonine kinase is a member of the IKK family involved in NF-kappa B activation and IRF3 signaling. TBK1 acts as a ubiquitous transcription factor and key mediator of immune and inflammatory gene expression. NF-kB regulates numerous genes in response to extracellular stimuli and is inhibited by IKB proteins in the cytoplasm. Phosphorylation of I-KB by the IKK complex (IKKa, IKKβ, IKKK) leads to its degradation and NF-kB activation. TBK1, also known as NAK or T2K, activates IKKβ through direct phosphorylation and mediates NF-kB activation upon growth factor stimulation. It functions upstream of NIK and the IKK complex and plays a critical role in protecting embryonic liver cells from apoptosis.
