Product Specific Information

This DS5MMER monoclonal antibody recognizes mouse MerTK, a 170–210 kDa member of the TAM family of tyrosine kinase receptors that includes Axl and Tyro3. MerTK is expressed on tissue macrophages and mediates apoptotic cell clearance via Protein S and Gas6 ligands. Ligand binding induces MerTK autophosphorylation, activating PI3K and Akt pathways, leading to phagocytosis and inhibition of TLR-induced cytokine production. MerTK may also serve as an entry receptor for filoviruses, and its deficiency leads to autoimmunity and inflammation. It is constitutively shed from the cell surface by metalloproteinases.

Target Information

MERTK (cMER) is a tyrosine kinase proto-oncogene involved in retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) phagocytosis and various physiological processes such as cell survival, migration, differentiation, and efferocytosis. Ligand-induced autophosphorylation recruits signaling molecules like GRB2 and PLCG2, activating MAPK1/2, FAK/PTK2, and RAC1. MERTK signaling contributes to macrophage clearance of apoptotic cells, platelet aggregation, cytoskeleton reorganization, and inhibition of TLR-mediated immune responses via STAT1 activation and SOCS1/3 induction.
