Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and is vital for brain development.
Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene have been identified in tumors such as anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer.
Chromosomal rearrangements often create fusion genes, such as NPM-ALK, which exhibit oncogenic properties.
ALK functions as a receptor protein-tyrosine kinase with transmembrane and extracellular domains, showing high sequence similarity to LTK.
It plays an important role in neuronal development and signaling.
