Antibody detects endogenous levels of total CDK8.
Target Information
CDK8 phosphorylates the carboxy-terminal domain of the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II. This protein is coexpressed and copurified with Cyclin C. CDK8 belongs to the cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) family, which plays a critical role in regulating cell cycle progression. The prototype members p34/Cdc2 and Cdk2 function in the later stages of the cycle, while Cdk4 and Cdk6 are involved in the G1 to S phase transition. By analogy with yeast Cdk8, human Cdk8–Cyclin C complex may interact with RNA polymerase, influencing transcriptional mechanisms that lead to cell division.
