Antibody detects endogenous levels of total CDKN2A/p16INK4a.
Target Information
This gene generates several transcript variants differing in their first exons. At least three alternatively spliced variants encoding distinct proteins have been reported, two of which encode isoforms functioning as inhibitors of CDK4 kinase. Another transcript includes an alternate first exon located 20 Kb upstream, containing an alternate open reading frame (ARF) that encodes a structurally unrelated protein. The ARF product stabilizes tumor suppressor protein p53 by interacting with and sequestering MDM2, preventing p53 degradation. Despite structural and functional differences, CDK inhibitor isoforms and the ARF product share a common role in cell cycle G1 control. This gene is frequently mutated or deleted in various tumors and is an important tumor suppressor gene.
