Target Information

The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known to regulate programmed cell death (apoptosis). BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their anti-apoptotic functions. Its pro-apoptotic activity is controlled via phosphorylation by kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and dephosphorylation by calcineurin. Alternative splicing yields two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
