Target Information
Fibronectin is a disulfide-bonded dimer with a molecular weight range of 230–250 kDa. In connective tissues and vessels, fibronectin exists as an insoluble protein cross-linked by interchain disulfide bonds forming high molecular mass polymers. It is abundant during embryonic development and tissue remodeling and also found as a soluble plasma protein.
Fibronectin consists of repeating modules forming domains for interaction with itself, other matrix components (collagen, heparin), and cell surface receptors (integrins). It plays key roles in cell adhesion, migration, wound healing, blood coagulation, host defense, and metastasis. Fibronectin expression increases in non-small cell lung carcinoma, enhancing tumorigenicity and resistance to chemotherapy-induced apoptosis. The gene encoding Fibronectin has three regions subject to alternative splicing, potentially producing up to 20 transcript variants.
