Target Information
Laminins are essential and abundant structural non-collagenous glycoproteins localized to basement membranes. These membranes, composed of Laminins, Type IV Collagen, Nidogen, and proteoglycans, are found beneath epithelial layers, around blood vessel endothelium, and surrounding muscle, nerve, and fat cells.
Laminins influence cell proliferation, phenotype, migration, gene expression, and tissue architecture. Each Laminin is a heterotrimer of alpha, beta, and gamma chains that are secreted and incorporated into the extracellular matrix.
They can self-assemble, bind to other matrix macromolecules, and interact with cells via Integrins, dystroglycan, and Laminin receptors. The human Laminin gamma-1 gene (LAMC1) is located on chromosome 1q31 and is ubiquitously expressed in basement membrane-producing tissues.
