Target Information
Laminins are essential and abundant structural non-collagenous glycoproteins localized to basement membranes. These membranes are composed of Laminins, Type IV Collagen networks, Nidogen, and proteoglycans. They are found beneath epithelial layers, around blood vessels, and surrounding muscle, peripheral nerve, and fat cells. Laminins influence cell proliferation, migration, gene expression, and tissue architecture. Each Laminin is a heterotrimer of alpha, beta, and gamma chains that self-assemble and interact with matrix macromolecules and cell receptors such as Integrins and dystroglycan. The human Laminin gamma-1 gene (LAMC1) maps to chromosome 1q31 and is expressed ubiquitously in basement membrane-producing tissues.
