Product Specific Information

MA3-414 detects p23 from chicken, guinea pig, human, rat, mouse, and rabbit samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot, immunofluorescence, and immunoprecipitation procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects a 19 or 23 kDa protein representing p23 from rabbit reticulocyte lysate.
MA3-414 can be used to immunoprecipitate both free and complexed p23.
The antigen used is recombinant human p23.

Target Information

Steroid receptors are ligand-dependent intracellular proteins that regulate gene transcription by binding to specific DNA sequences upon hormone activation.
Before activation, they associate with various proteins, including heat shock proteins (HSP70, HSP90), immunophilins (FKBP52, FKBP54, CyP-40), and other proteins such as p23, p60, and p48.

p23, along with HSP70, HSP90, and p60, forms part of a transient intermediate complex with the progesterone receptor (PR).
Cloned human p23 encodes a 160-amino-acid protein that is highly conserved across species and shows no homology to previously identified proteins.
It is a highly acidic phosphoprotein with an aspartic acid-rich C-terminal domain and multiple potential phosphorylation sites.
In vitro studies suggest that p23 binds to HSP90 and is required for HSP90 and CyP-40 binding to PR.
Although its precise function and mechanism remain unclear, p23 is considered an important factor in PR function.
