Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with CD14, a 53–55 kDa GPI-linked extracellular membrane glycoprotein expressed on monocytes, macrophages, and weakly on granulocytes; also expressed by most tissue macrophages. In humans, the epitope recognized by MEM-18 is located between amino acids 57–64.

Target Information

CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein constitutively expressed on the surface of mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It functions as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and exists in both membrane-bound and soluble forms. CD14 binds lipopolysaccharides in a reaction catalyzed by lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), contributing to immune defense mechanisms. It also binds apoptotic cells and influences allergic, inflammatory, and infectious processes. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants encoding the same isoform. CD14 dysfunction is associated with conditions such as Mycobacterium chelonae infection and croup.
