Target Information
This gene encodes a translation repressor protein that interacts with eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E), a key component in recruiting ribosomal subunits to mRNA. Interaction with eIF4E inhibits complex assembly and represses translation.
Phosphorylation of this protein in response to stimuli (e.g., UV irradiation, insulin signaling) leads to dissociation from eIF4E and activation of mRNA translation.
