Product Specific Information

This antibody is purified from mouse ascites fluid and is specific for the 66 kDa alpha-internexin protein. The 2E3 antibody stains human neurons and nerve fibers in the cerebral cortex, as well as glioma, ganglioneuroma, pheochromocytoma, and paraganglioma in human tissues. For FFPE tissues, pretreatment with HIER using citrate buffer (pH 6) is recommended.

Target Information

Alpha-internexin is a Class IV intermediate filament subunit expressed early in neuronal development. It is distinct from the neurofilament triplet proteins (NF-L, NF-M, NF-H) but shares similar sequence motifs and intron organization. Many mature neurons express alpha-internexin alongside NF-L, NF-M, and NF-H, while some express only alpha-internexin. Antibodies to internexin serve as valuable tools for studying neuronal types and development. Its early expression makes it a useful marker for neuronal progenitor cells and cells committed to the neuronal lineage. Potential applications in brain tumor studies are of future interest.
