Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with the ~50 kDa beta-tubulin and binds to two major and one minor beta-tubulin isotypes. Reactivity has been confirmed with mouse NIH3T3 fibroblast cells, rat brain, and mouse testis.
Target Information
Beta tubulins are one of two core protein families (alpha and beta tubulins) that heterodimerize to form microtubules. Beta-III tubulin is primarily expressed in neurons and may be involved in neurogenesis, axon guidance, and maintenance. Mutations in the beta tubulin gene cause congenital fibrosis of the extraocular muscles type 3. Beta-III tubulin is also detected in Sertoli cells and transiently in non-neuronal embryonic tissues. Tubulin is phosphorylated on Ser-172 by CDK1 during cell cycle progression, which inhibits its incorporation into microtubules. Microtubules, composed of alpha and beta tubulin dimers, play key roles in mitosis, intracellular transport, and cytoskeletal structure. Beta-tubulin is ubiquitously expressed and commonly used as a loading control in protein detection assays such as Western blotting.
