Target Information
The CDKN2B gene lies adjacent to the tumor suppressor gene CDKN2A, in a region frequently mutated and deleted in various tumors. It encodes a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor that forms complexes with CDK4 or CDK6, preventing kinase activation and regulating cell cycle G1 progression. Expression of this gene is induced by TGF beta, suggesting its role in TGF beta–mediated growth inhibition. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct proteins have been reported.
