Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of Occludin only when phosphorylated at Ser507 (mouse).

Target Information

Occludin is a 65 kDa protein that exists in various phosphorylated forms up to approximately 82 kDa. It plays a key role in regulating tight junction localization and function. Polyunsaturated fatty acids up-regulate occludin expression, enhancing transendothelial resistance and reducing permeability to large molecules. Expression levels vary by tissue: high and continuous in brain cell junctions, lower and discontinuous in non-neural tissues. Structural features are highly conserved across species. Under-expression of occludin and other tight junction proteins contributes to increased permeability in tumor endothelium, leading to brain tumor edema.
