Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the large DEAD-box protein family, characterized by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif, and exhibits ATP-dependent RNA helicase activity.
It has both RNA- and DNA-stimulated ATPase activity and functions in the nucleus and cytoplasm.
Nuclear roles include:
- Transcriptional regulation

- mRNA export
Cytoplasmic roles include:
- Translation
- Cellular signaling
- Viral replication
Misregulation of this gene is implicated in tumorigenesis. A paralog exists on the Y chromosome, and pseudogenes are found on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
