PDK1 (3-phosphoinositide dependent kinase-1) is a serine/threonine protein kinase localized to the plasma membrane.
It plays a vital role in:
- Insulin-induced glycogen synthesis
- PKC activation
- Activation of the AGC subfamily of protein kinases
PDK1 is important for cellular responses to hypoxia and cell proliferation under hypoxia.
It protects cells against apoptosis in response to hypoxia and oxidative stress.
