This antibody detects endogenous levels of p21 Cip1 only when phosphorylated at Thr57.
Target Information
Protein p21 is a tumor suppressor protein that inhibits Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK) and is transcriptionally activated by p53. p21 plays a key role in the cellular response to genotoxic stress and is a major transcriptional target of p53. In the nucleus, p21 binds and inhibits CDK1 and CDK2, blocking the transition from G1 to S phase or from G2 to mitosis after DNA damage, allowing DNA repair. In the cytoplasm, p21 exhibits anti-apoptotic activity by binding to and inhibiting caspase 3 and apoptotic kinases such as ASK1 and JNK. p21 has a dual role in carcinogenesis, functioning as both a tumor suppressor and, under certain conditions, an oncogene.
